Creating projects in WorldServer Explorer

As opposed to other project creation methods that are based on project types, in WorldServer Explorer, you need to link folders and assets before creating projects.

Before you begin

Specify the correspondence (linkage) between folders and assets for different locales by going to Management > Business Rule Linkage > Linkage.

When you create a project in Explorer, you can only select the target locales for which linkage from the selected source is configured. If you do not have linkage configured, WorldServer creates a project for editing the source asset instead of translating the asset into another language or locale. For example, if you selected the Source1 folder (English locale), which is linked to TargetFR (French locale) and to TargetSP (Spanish locale), both French and Spanish will be available as target locales. You can select any number of target locales for the project. WorldServer creates a separate project for each locale. However, all the projects in the same project group have the same name.

Procedure

  1. In WorldServer, go to Explorer.
  2. Select the source assets for the project, and then select Project > Create Project.
  3. In the Create Project (Step 1 of 2) dialog box, do the following:
  4. Do the following:
    1. Enter a name and a description for your project in the appropriate boxes.
    2. Select the target locales of your project.
    3. In the Workgroup list, select the workgroup that you want to use for your project.
    4. Next to Source Assets, select whether you want to include in the project all the assets under the selected path or only the assets that are new or changed.
Note: For a given folder, the first time you create a project, select All to make sure that all of the assets are initially translated. On subsequent occasions when you create a project with these assets, you can select New and Changed Only to make sure that WorldServer does not create tasks for assets that have not changed.

When you select New and Changed Only, you can see an Exclude Checked Out Assets option. You can use it to exclude any assets you have checked out from the project. Enabling this option affects only connectors that support the Checked Out state. When the option to exclude checked out assets is applied to connector nodes that do not support this state, the option has no effect on change detection.

    5. Select Advanced, specify additional parameters in the Advanced Project Parameters dialog box and select OK when you finish.
  5. In the Create Project (Step 1 of 2) dialog box, select Next.
  6. On the Create Project (Step 2 of 2) page, do the following:
    1. For each target locale of the project, select a workflow for the tasks in the project to follow.
Note: You can expand the top-level source folder to specify as many different workflows as you need; however, if you are using one workflow per locale, you only need to specify the workflow for the top-level folder. If you have multiple target locales, make sure you have specified a workflow for each; otherwise tasks will not be created. You may need to select the locale check box and select Update Columns to view each locale column.

You or your administrator can use the default workflow table (Management > Business Rule Linkage > Default Workflow Table) to specify a default workflow to use for each linked target locale folder. This saves you from having to select the workflow every time a project is created, and also enables automatic project creation (with rule creation).

    2. Optional: If you want to change the task assignees, select Change Workflow Assignees and assign each step to the appropriate users in the Change Task Assignees dialog box.
  7. Select Create Project, and then select OK.
