Most of the tasks you usually perform in
WorldServer Explorer revolve around assets and projects—from creating them to changing their properties or exporting them for offline work.
Creating assets or folders
Use WorldServer Explorer to create new folders or assets for your AIS mounts.
Deleting assets or folders
When you delete folders or assets from Explorer, they are also deleted from the location where they are stored (for example, from the file system).
Downloading assets
If you want to store your final translated files offline, you can download them from Explorer as a .zip archive.
Uploading assets
Uploading an asset means copying it from your file system to WorldServer. This can be useful if you want to update the source assets of a project that is already in progress. To upload multiple assets at the same time, place them in a .zip archive and WorldServer will extract them automatically during the upload.
Locking assets or folders
Lock assets or folders to prevent other users from changing them for a certain period. Assets are locked automatically when you export them and when you save changes in Browser Workbench or in the Freeform Editor.
Changing asset properties
For each available property, choose whether you want it to inherit its value from the parent folder or specify a value yourself.
Copying assets or folders
In WorldServer Explorer, you can copy folders or assets from one location to another. For example, you can reproduce the structure of a top-level source folder in target folders.
Searching within assets
To search for particular words or phrases, store your assets in a repository whose connector supports searching. In WorldServer Explorer, the search function supports text files, but does not locate text contained in binary files generated by Microsoft Office, QuarkXPress, or other programs.
Submitting content
As part of the review process, you can submit source content from WorldServer Explorer for approval. The default workflow for the source language must be set up so that it can submit assets.
Exporting translation kits from Explorer
If you want to work on one or more tasks offline, in a tool such as Trados Studio, you can export those tasks from WorldServer in the form of a translation kit.
Importing translation kits into Explorer
If you or another member of your team worked on a task offline, in a program such as Trados Studio, you can import the work back into WorldServer as a return package. Keep in mind that you can only import tasks that are currently claimed by you.
Searching for properties
Property search allows you to search for AIS nodes that have a custom property set to a particular value. You can only search for custom properties.
Clearing segment cache
Clearing segment cache resets all the segmented assets for all locales of the selected AIS assets. If you select a folder, Explorer resets all the assets under that folder.
Scoping folders or assets
Use scoping to determine how many words there are in a particular folder or asset and how much the translation will cost, based on selected scoping configurations, target locales, TM, machine translation configuration (if uploaded and configured), and the cost model associated with the project's scoping configuration.
Creating projects in WorldServer Explorer
As opposed to other project creation methods that are based on project types, in WorldServer Explorer, you need to link folders and assets before creating projects.
Linking source and target folders
Linkage defines the relationship between source folders, which contain assets in the source language, and target folders, which contain translated content for each target locale. By configuring linkage, you indicate where you want to save translated content.
Adding tasks to existing projects
Add new tasks to existing projects with the same target locale whenever you need. For example, a translator has already started working on a project, but you need to update one of the assets in the project. Instead of creating a new project, you can add the updated asset to the existing project as a new task. If the translator starts to work on the outdated task, WorldServer informs the translator that the source asset has been updated. Then, the translator can delete the outdated task and start working on the new task.
