Saving workflows as drafts

In the Workflow Editor, you can save workflows only if they meet certain validation criteria. However, by saving your workflow as a draft, WorldServer saves your workflow without performing any validations, so that you can return to the workflow and finish configuring it at a later time.

Draft workflows are displayed in Management > Workflow > Workflows with the [draft] string next to their name. They are not displayed anywhere else in WorldServer until you save them.

Use the Save as Draft option to save both new and pre-existing workflows as drafts. When you save a new workflow as a draft, you need to give it a name. However, when you save a pre-existing workflow as a draft, WorldServer reuses the name of the pre-existing workflow.

Use the Save option only after you have finished configuring your draft. If you save it successfully, it is no longer considered a draft and users will be able to select it in WorldServer.

If you want to modify a previously completed workflow, you can also save it as a draft. In this case, when you save it as a draft, the original workflow is still available in WorldServer, along with the newly saved draft version.

You can also go back to the original version and discard the draft. For example, you might open the original workflow and start making changes, and then save the new version of the workflow as a draft. If you decide that you want to discard all your changes, re-open the original workflow. At this point, WorldServer gives you two options: to continue working on the draft version or to discard the draft version and re-open the original workflow.

After you save the draft version as a valid workflow, the original version of the workflow is no longer available in WorldServer. If the original version is used by ongoing projects or tasks, the projects or tasks will keep using it, but it will no longer be available to users in WorldServer and the Garbage Collector will pick it up after those projects or tasks are completed.
