A
workflow defines a standard, repeatable process for translating and handling content. Workflows consist of
steps and
transitions that link the steps together, imposing the order in which the steps occur.
Workflow roles
Workflow roles are groups of WorldServer users who perform similar duties; for example, translators or reviewers. You can assign workflow steps to workflow roles.
Workflow phases
Workflow phases are groupings of workflow steps that collectively execute a particular well-known purpose. For example, you might group Translation, Review, DTP, and QA into a single phase called Translate and Review.
Workflow steps and actions
Workflow steps represent particular actions that need to be performed either manually, by human users, or automatically, by WorldServer. Steps are connected through transitions, which control the overall progress of the workflow.
Workflow transitions
Transitions are connections between workflow steps. They control the overall progress of the workflow.
Adding workflows
Adding a workflow consists of adding steps and transitions. Configure each step after you add it.
Modifying workflows
If you modify a workflow that is already used by one or more tasks, the existing tasks will still use the original version of the workflow and your changes will be applied only to newly created project groups and tasks.
Deleting workflows
When you delete a workflow, the tasks associated with it are not affected, but you can no longer create new projects with that workflow.
Saving workflows as drafts
In the Workflow Editor, you can save workflows only if they meet certain validation criteria. However, by saving your workflow as a draft, WorldServer saves your workflow without performing any validations, so that you can return to the workflow and finish configuring it at a later time.
Specifying default workflows
A default workflow is a workflow that WorldServer Explorer uses by default to create projects, unless the project creator selects a different workflow. The default workflow only applies to WorldServer Explorer; for other project creation methods, WorldServer uses the workflow corresponding to the project type.
Shortcuts in the Workflow Editor
Shortcuts are a simple and efficient alternative to working with the mouse. As project deadlines near, you might want to use them to save time.
